Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.0 * * users * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Four problems are fixed with this * * APAR. * * (1) If the default profile for an * * instance of WebSphere Application * * Server is changed the * * startManager.bat still continues to * * point to the older default profile. * * (2) Performance enhancement to the * * speed of profile creation. * * (3) Error during post-installation * * steps. * * (4) FirstSteps is corrupted when the * * locale is Japanese and the site * * administrator chooses to name the * * profile as a string ending with the * * Japanese equivalent of the word * * "language", such as * * AppServer01_<JapEquiv-of-language>. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The description of the four problems fixed by this APAR are given. The order corresponds with each problem description given in the Problem Description section above. (1) This problem occurs when the deafult profile is changed. After the default profile is changed when the startManager.bat script is invoked it continues to point to the older default profile. The correct behaviour should be to point to the newly set default profile. (2) This is a performance enhancement to to profile creation using the default template on Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems. The JVM has been tuned, by introduction of two JVM system parameters -Xshareclasses and -Xquickstart, to enhance the speed of profile creation. There are no visible artifacts to an external user of this enhancement. (3) When config actions are being executed during WebSphere Application Server install (or uninstall) operations of any of interim fix application, fixpack upgrades, or WebSphere Application Server installation, and if the config action registry contains trailing blank lines the postinstaller will fail. Since config actions are only used internally by WebSphere Application Server developers or interim Fix developers this problem will not be seen by customers. All interim fixes that contain config actions will show the error during testing phase. Therefore they should not be ever seen by customers. (4) This problem is specific to Japanese locales and when the profile name chosen by an user ends with the Japanese equivalent of the word "language", for example AppServer01_<JapEquiv-of-language>. Under the above two conditions when the FirstSteps is launched two incorrect things will be noticed. (i) The FirstSteps title bar becomes garbled with HTML characters, as opposed to default value of "WebSphere Application Server -- First steps -- <ProfileName>". (ii) The link to the Installation Verification Tool (IVT) link is invalid.
Problem conclusion
Code changes were made to fix the 5 problems. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.0.0.2. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
