Error description
When WS-Security verifies an XML Digital Signature that uses the enveloped-signature transform, a 'Digest value mismatch' error may occur.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server users of * * WS-Security JAX-WS applications * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 'Digest value mismatch' error may * * occur when using the * * enveloped-signature transform * * algorithm * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Install an fix pack that contains this * * APAR. * **************************************************************** When WS-Security verifies an XML Digital Signature that uses the http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#enveloped-signature transform algorithm and the signed element has attributes with a namespace prefix, a 'Digest value mismatch' error similar to the following may occur: SAML Assertion signature is verified.Core validity=false Signed info validity=true Signed info message='null'(validity=false message='Digest value mismatch: calculated: KCuNwlUAk5+G2PYb8fZ+Y1hTMtw=' uri='#Assertion-1234' type='null')
Problem conclusion
If an element to be signed contains an attribute with a namespace prefix the WS-Security is improperly canonicalizing the element before calculating the digest value. The WS-Security runtime is updated to properly handle element attributes with namespace prefixes. If the application of this APAR is causing compatibility problems in a cell that has application servers at different fixpack levels, you can return the runtime to the previous behavior by doing the following: Set the following JVM system property: com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.dsig.enableEnvelopedSignatureProperty=t rue Set the following WS-Security custom property in the Inbound, Outbound, or Inbound and Oubound custom properties in the WS-Security policy set bindings: com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.dsig.oldEnvelopedSignature=true If you are using the SAMLTokenFactory to create a SAML token, set the JVM system property and set the property shown above in the SAMLIssuerConfig.properties file. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.23 and 8.0.0.4.
