Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V8. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: OutOfMemoryError when repeatedly * * starting, stopping and updating * * modules in applications. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The com.ibm.ws.webbeans.services.JCDIComponentImpl.earDrum IdentityHashMap<EARFile, EarData> is leaking EarFileImpl instances leading to leaks of EarFileImpl, WarFileImpl and EJBJarFileImpl objects across module updates. This leak occurs when a module inside an ear is updated or restarted, not if the entire application is updated or restarted.
Problem conclusion
The CDI service class JCDIComponentImpl no longer caches reference to older EARFileImpl objects. The IdentityHashMap<EARFile, EarData> has been removed. The application logical name is now derived through the application and module metadata that is stashed in a ThreadLocal by WebSphere Application Server runtime. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.0.0.2.
