Error description
The WebSphere Application Server for z/OS server instance appears to run out of storage when using the OTMA support of the Optimized Local Adapters (OLA) in an environment where Java threads are created and destroyed frequently. A CORBA::NO_MEMORY exception is seen in the servant region output. The servant region may terminate and a new servant region may replace it.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V8.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When using the OTMA support of the * * optimized local adapters, the servant * * region may run out of storage and * * terminate. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The Optimized Local Adapters (OLA) component caches a work area for each servant region task which uses OTMA. This work area is not cleaned up when the task terminates. If tasks are created and terminated frequently, this can lead to an out of memory condition, causing the servant region to stop taking new work, or causing the servant region to terminate. The out of memory condition is reported by a CORBA::NO_MEMORY exception, which can be seen in the servant region output (SYSPRINT).
Problem conclusion
Code was added to release the work area cache for a servant region task as the task goes through termination processing. APAR PM47740 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Level (Fix Pack) 8.0.0.2 of WebSphere Application Server Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980 In addition, please refer to URL: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=404&uid=swg27006970 for Fix Pack PTF information.
