Error description
When SMP/E-based stack products are configured with WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 8.0 the post installer can run a significant amount of time. This can cause the post installer step (APPLY) within the control region procedure to exceed the installation limit.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V8.0 * * users that install SMP/E-based stacked * * products. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere Application Server * * control region times out during the * * postinstaller job step. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When SMP/E-based stack products are configured on top of WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V8.0 the symlink structure in the configuration image is changed such that a longer time is required for the postinstaller processing during a warmstart after service has been applied. In a very extreme situation, when WebSphere is running on a slow processor and the installation has a low default job step timeout value, it is possible for the postinstaller step to timeout.
Problem conclusion
"TIME=MAXIMUM" has been added to the EXEC statement for the post installer step in the skeleton file that is used to generate the control region procs. This update will not affect existing procs. APAR PM47846 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Level (Fix Pack) 8.0.0.2 of WebSphere Application Server V8.0.
