    7.0.0.19 with profiles gives the following Partial Success
    Message.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Config action that updates ivtApp.ear   *
    *                      in profiles fails and results in        *
    *                      partial success of WebSphere            *
    *                      Application Server update.              *

    The config action which updates ivtApp.ear in profiles fails
    on some systems when run by IBM Update Installer for WebSphere
    Software or during initial installation of WebSphere
    Application Server. A Java class called by the config action
    to retrieve the list of profiles terminates unexpectedly. This
    problem is not reproducible on all installations of WebSphere
    Application Server. The failure of this config action is valid
    in some cases, for example when there is a corrupted profile.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Code changes were made to run the config action, which updates
    ivtApp.ear in profiles, by ws_ant.bat (or ws_ant.sh) instead
    of the post-installer. Shifted the content of
    99SupdateProfileIvtApp.ant to a new file called
    updateProfileIvtApp.ant and modified
    99SupdateProfileIvtApp.ant to run the new file using
    ws_ant.bat or ws_ant.sh.
    Please note that in some cases the failure of
    99SupdateProfileIvtApp.ant is valid, for example when there is
    a corrupted profile.
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 6.0.0.43. and 7.0.0.21. Please refer to the

Temporary fix

  • Run config action 99SupdateProfileIvtApp.ant manually using
    ws_ant.bat or ws_ant.sh.
    
    The command for Linux would be:
    ./ws_ant.sh -DWAS_HOME="WAS_HOME_LOCATION" -buildfile
    "WAS_HOME_LOCATION/properties/version/nif/update/config/install/
    99SupdateProfileIvtApp.ant" -logfile
    "WAS_HOME_LOCATION\logs\manualExec99SupdateProfileIvtApp.log"
    -verbose
    
    The command for Microsoft Windows would be:
    ws_ant.bat -DWAS_HOME="WAS_HOME_LOCATION" -buildfile
    "WAS_HOME_LOCATION\properties\version\nif\update\config\install\
    99SupdateProfileIvtApp.ant" -logfile
    "WAS_HOME_LOCATION\logs\manualExec99SupdateProfileIvtApp.log"
    -verbose
    
    Replace 'WAS_HOME_LOCATION' with the value of the installation
    location of WebSphere Application Server. Also include the
    quotations as shown above.
    
    If the run was successful then the ivtApp.ear in profiles
    were updated. If the execution fails then some other problem
    is causing the failure. One valid cause of a failure would be
    the existence of a corrupted failure.
    Inspect
    WAS_HOME_LOCATION\logs\manualExec99SupdateProfileIvtApp.log to
    find the cause of failure.
