APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • All hung threads are logged and thread dumps produced when the
thread monitor detects them. This APAR allows a configurable
    maximum number of dumps.

    ****************************************************************
WebSphere Application Server provides a thread monitoring
utility that detects potentially-hung threads on WebSphere
Application Server thread pools, along with an option to
create a full thread dump when such a situation is
detected. In V7.0, this setting is either enabled or disabled
(the property set to "true" or "false", respectively), with
unlimited thread dumps created in the enabled case. This
situation dissuaded some users from utilizing this function,
as large numbers of hung threads could deplete disk space. In
V8.0 andh higher, the property was changed to accept integer
values, which would specify a maximum number of thread dumps
to create over the life of the JVM.

Problem conclusion

  • This APAR ports V8.0's support for limiting the number of
thread dumps to V7.0. To enable this, set the system property
    "com.ibm.websphere.threadmonitor.dump.java" to an integer value.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.25. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
