APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The customer reports that as the number of deployed web
    applications increases so does the time to deploy new
    applications.  Specifically, the systems takes about 10
    minutes to come back after clicking Next on the 'How do
    you want to install the application?'window.  The other
    install steps respond in a timely manner.

    Further investigation showed that a hung thread is
    waiting for an asynchronous command operation to
    complete. The command is "listBLAs" to list all of
    the BLAs.  A jython script run by the customer which
    issued the command:
    AdminTask.listBLAs()
    with trace setting "BLA=all" for the Deployment
    Manager (dmgr) confirms that the hang occurs outside
    of application deployment too.

    The customer requests that the time needed to complete
    the listBLAs be reduced and/or that the listBLAs be
    removed from the application deploy process if not needed.

    The AdminTask.listBLAs command requires an excessive amount of
    time to complete. The amount of excessive time increases as
    the total size of EAR files installed on the system increases.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The command was performing heavyweight processing not required
    in most cases. The logic has been changed to perform the
    additional work only when required.
    
    APAR PM55982 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
    Levels (Fix Packs) 7.0.0.23 and 8.0.0.4 of WebSphere
    Application Server.
