Error description
If customer has configured File repository or DataBase repository which contains a single user. Then customer can log into WebSphere Application Server by specifying '*' in the user name, proivded they have specified the correct password. This happens because the '*' specified in the user name is treated as a wild card character and not a literal.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: At the time of login, VMM treates '*' * * in login name as a wild card and not * * a literal. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** At the time of login, if customer logs in with a username 'user*' and there is a user with username 'user1' in the registry, then login will be successful if the password for 'user*' matches with 'user1'. This happens because Virtual Member Manager (VMM) treats '*' as wildcard character and not a literal. This problem occurs for both File and Database repositories. Please note that if there are multiple users that satisfies the search criteria, then a multiple principal found exception will be thrown.
Problem conclusion
The fix involved treating treating '*' as a string literal and not a wild card. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 6.1.0.45, 7.0.0.23, and 8.0.0.4.
