Error description
Performance degredation that is neglible in the overall WebSphere Application Server, but could be an important impact in some cases where components, such as business flows and processes, are measuring on a smaller scale.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users IBM WebSphere Application Server * * V8.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere Application Server stack * * products that have components using * * java.util.logging.Logger.isLoggable * * method as a trace guard might * * notice a degredation in performance. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Internal logger implementation overrides the isLoggable method which adds a slight overhead. When measured on a smaller scale, a degredation can be observed. Internal WebSphere Application Server components are not impacted because there is an internal guard in place.
Problem conclusion
The internal guard has been applied such that it is invoked when external callers invoke the java.util.logging.Logger.isLoggable method to counteract the performance degredation. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.0.0.4.
