PM59476: THREADS HANG in SSL CONNECTIONS

Error description

With mod_mpmstats loaded and TrackModules directive enabled,
IBM HTTP Server error log shows messages like the following
message:
mpmstats: bsy: xyz in mod_was_ap22_http.c

The customer noticed the number 'xyz' constantly increases.

IBM HTTP Server hang must-gather documents indicates many
threads were in this function: plugin_ssl_read

Local fix

None
Customer can monitor the number of busy threads and restart IHS
before the number of busy threads reaches MaxClients.

When a non-zero serveriotimeout is used and gskit is used for
SSL connections, plugin will not time out threads. When a
thread is hung, it indicates two problems, one that the
application server never responded and the other that plugin
never released the waiting thread.

Problem conclusion

Changed code so that plugin would honor serveriotimeout on SSL
connections.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.1.0.45, 7.0.0.25, 8.0.0.4.  Please refer to the
