APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
User recently upgraded to WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment edition, V7.0.0.17, and DB2 datasource is throwing "DSRA9110E: Statement is closed exception" instead of "java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Socket operation timed out before it could be completed". This is an inconsistent error (with WebSphere Application Server V6.1) that user is getting and that their app is un-able to catch the error.
Local fix
Candidate to be fiex in next release.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: In the event of a communication error * * between application server and * * database server, the wrong message is * * given to the application. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When the communication breaks between application server layer and database layer while running an SQL statement, an SQLException must be thrown to the application with the actual reason for the failure. However, when PMI is enabled, an SQLException with irrelevant message is thrown to the application which causes: 1) Inconsistent release to release behavior 2) Failure to intrepret the error. The actual message to be thrown is: com.ibm.db2.jcc.am.DisconnectNonTransientConnectionException: [jcc][t4][2030][11211][3.61.75] A communication error occurred during operations on the connection's underlying socket, socket input stream, But, the message thrown instead is: SQL Message='DSRA9110E: Statement is closed.' SQL Error='0'
Problem conclusion
The problem has been fixed by modifying the code to preserve the original message and throw the same to the application. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.25 and 8.0.0.4.
