Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM WebSphere Application Server * * V7.0 and v8.0 managing their own rollover * * of the system error log file * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If the system error log file was not * * created by IBM WebSphere Application * * Server it is renamed on server start * * up. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** On server start up SystemErr.log file is renamed if it is not empty and does not contain a WebSphere Application Server log header. This logic is independent of the time and space retention policy you specify in the configuration for system error stream. This creates a problem if you are attempting to disable rollover of this log file altogether.
Problem conclusion
Start up logic is adjusted to avoid renaming of this log file on server start up unless the "com.ibm.websphere.logging.errheading" system property is set to value "none". The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.23 and 8.0.0.4.
