Error description

  • For fixpack 8501 the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS
    install image contains hidden directories in the root install
    directory to contain the JDK PAX files. (These directories are
    named .jdk6paxfiles and .jdk7paxfiles.) These directories
    should not appear in the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS
    configuration images, but some of the customization scripts
    create symbolic links in the configuration images to these
    directores.

    *                      z/OS Version 8.5 configuration image    *
    * contains unnecessary symbolic links. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Two "hidden" directories were added to the WebSphere
    Application Server for z/OS install images for fix pack 8.5.0.1
    - .jdk6pakfiles and .jdk7pakfiles. When the zUpdateSymlinks.sh
    script is invoked (either due to a service upgrade or profile
    augmentation) it will generate symbolic links in the
    configuration image that point to these two directories. These
    symbolic links should not be generated because the files
    contained in these directories are used only during install
    processing.

Problem conclusion

  • The .jdk6pakfiles and .jdk7pakfiles directories were added
    to the list of directories that the zUpdateSymlinks.sh
    script ignores. This prevents the script from generating
    symbolic links in the configuration image that point to these
    directories.
