PM69680: APPLYPERFTUNING.PY SCRIPT IS FAILING WHEN SERVER NAME SPECIFIED CONTAINS DASHES

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When a server name is specified that contains dashes, the
    script for applying performance tuning actions,
    ApplyPerfTuning.py
    fails during profile creation of a custom profile. This causes
    the Profile Management tool to hang on the Profile Creation
    Summary screen showing the applyPerfTuningAction step as the
    last step run.

    The applyPerfTuningTemplate.log under the profile directory
    in location: WAS_HOME/logs/manageprofiles/profile_name/
    contains the following error:
    
    ERROR: Unexpected/invalid configuration ID:
    <installation specific information>

  • Do not use server name that contains dashes
    

Problem summary

    Custom profile creation is hung during application of
    a performance tuning template for a server, when hyphen
    characters are used in the naming convention of the server.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The performance tuning script which is run during custom
    profile creation has a piece of code that attempts to
    match and validate the server name. The Regular expression
    used for this does not properly handle hyphen characters. Code
    has been corrected to handle hyphen characters and make sure
    that Profile Creation is successfull.
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 8.0.0.6 and 8.5.0.2.  Please refer to the
