Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V8.0 and V8.5 with Java Persistence * * API (JPA) applications deployed using * * loose configuration. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: JPA persistence units in a jar module * * in WEB-INF/lib may not work properly * * when republished with loose * * configuration * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When an application containing JPA persistence units in a jar module within the WEB-INF/lib directory is deployed using loose configuration and then republished, a ClassCastException may occur attempting to use the JPA Entity classes.
Problem conclusion
The scope of the JPA persistence units defined in a jar module in the WEB-INV/lib directory may be misidentified as EAR scope rather than WAR scope, resulting in the persistence units not being restarted when the module is restarted. This problem has been corrected. The JPA persistence units will be properly scoped to the containing WAR module. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.0.0.5 and 8.5.0.1.
