8.5.0.2: WebSphere Application Server V8.5 Fix Pack 2

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• JAVA.NAMING.FACTORY.OBJECT is not honoured correctly in
  WebSphere Application Server 8.5.x.  The error seen when using
  Spring was:
  
  ClassCastException:
  com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtx incompatible with
  org.springframework.ldap.core.DirContextOperations
  
  Other similar ClassCastExceptions are possible.

  A similar problem was previously fixed under APAR PM49447.
  The fix was in open source Apache Aries code.  When the fix
  was ported to the Apache Aries project a regression was
  introduced.  Some code was refactored and as a result of a
  programming error, Directory Contexts were no longer handled
  correctly.  The ClassCastException is caused by this.
  WebSphere Application Server 8.5 reconsumed the latest Apache
  Aries and as a result contains the error introduced by the
  port to Apache Aries.
  

Problem conclusion

• This APAR fixes the programming error to correct the handling
  of Directory Contexts.
  
  The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
  fix pack 8.5.0.2.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
