Error description

  • On WebSphere Application Server 8.5, the maintenance mode break
    affinity is not correctly working.

    Maintenance mode - break affinity
The On-demand router (ODR) typically does not send any requests
to an application server in this mode (unless the request
matches a rule which explicitly permits it to be routed to an
    application server in maintenance mode).

When a request has established affinity to a cluster and the
cluster is set to Maintenance mode - break affinity. Subsequent
request from the same session will still be served even though
there are no rules in place.

    ****************************************************************
When determining whether a request is viable for affinity to a
target server, the runtime does not consider the specific
maintenance mode type of the server.

Problem conclusion

  • The runtime now explicitly checks for a stop or break affinity
maintenance mode. If found the runtime returns the expected
    503 error.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 8.5.0.2. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
