APAR status

Error description

  • maxFiles attributes of logging tags is not propagated properly
    in the server.xml

    logDirectory="logs_new"
    maxFileSize="100"
    maxFiles="2"
    consoleLogLevel="AUDIT"
    traceSpecification="*=info=enabled"
    traceFormat="ENHANCED"
    />
    
    If I set maxFiles to 2, then in ffdc directory, I see more than
    2 of each log.

Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The maxFiles setting does not appear    *
    *                      to work on FFDC directory files.        *

    When setting the maxFiles attribute, the files in the ffdc
    directory do not appear to adhere to this setting.
    

Problem conclusion

  • A correction to the log handlers has been made such that the
    following guidelines are adhered to:
    
    1) A single FFDC file for the same problem occuring in the
    same day.
    
    2) Multiple FFDC files where differing problems occur, the
    number of files does not adhere to the maxFiles property as
    all unique failures are captured for serviceability.
    
    3) The exception_summary logs adhere to the maxFiles property
