Error description

  • HTTP Channel NCSA Combined mode Log output is not working
    correctly.
    For example:

    In v7.0.0.23 we see output as follows:

    feabc:0:0:0:100:a874:b000:abc - - [09/Jan/2013:17:41:57 -0600]
    "GET /hitcount HTTP/1.1" 200 2227 - "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
    6.1; WOW64;rv:17.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/17.0"
    "UnicaNIODID=EJPurzwQvOQ-X31iSry;

    In v7.0.0.25 we see output as follows:

    feabc:0:0:0:100:a874:b000:abc %l - [15/Jan/2013:16:56:58
    -0600] "GET /hitcount HTTP/1.1" 200 2227

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server Version *
    *                  7.0, 8.0, 8.5 users of access logging.      *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The incorrect format is being used *
    *                      for access logging                      *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When access logging is enabled and the format is set via the
    drop down boxes on the administrative console the incorrect
    format is printed to the access logs. For example, if COMMON
    format is enabled it should look like this:
    feabc:0:0:0:100:a874:b000:abc - - 09/Jan/2013:17:41:57 -0600
    "GET /hitcount HTTP/1.1" 200 2227 - "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
    6.1; WOW64;rv:17.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/17.0"
    "Example;
    but it is printed like this:
    feabc:0:0:0:100:a874:b000:abc %l - 15/Jan/2013:16:56:58
    -0600 "GET /hitcount HTTP/1.1" 200 2227

Problem conclusion

  • The HTTP Channel was modified to properly set the format of
    the access log

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 7.0.0.29, 8.0.0.7, and 8.5.5.0. Please refer to the
