Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server V7.0, V8.0, and V8.5.                *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When the JAVACORE modify command is *
    * issued against a daemon process, it *
    * causes the daemon process to *
    *                      terminate.                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The JAVACORE modify command is used to request a new javacore
    from the process's JVM. Issuing the modify command
    F {DAEMON},JAVACORE will cause the daemon process to terminate
    instead, as it does not have a java environment.

Problem conclusion

  • Code was changed to prevent the JAVACORE modify command from
    being issued against a daemon process. Additionally, modify
    commands now route their responses to the z/OS console which
    issued the command.

    successfully complete.
