Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0, V8.0, and V8.5. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When the JAVACORE modify command is * * issued against a daemon process, it * * causes the daemon process to * * terminate. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The JAVACORE modify command is used to request a new javacore from the process's JVM. Issuing the modify command F {DAEMON},JAVACORE will cause the daemon process to terminate instead, as it does not have a java environment.
Problem conclusion
Code was changed to prevent the JAVACORE modify command from being issued against a daemon process. Additionally, modify commands now route their responses to the z/OS console which issued the command. APAR PM84850 requires changes to documentation. NOTE: Periodically, we refresh the documentation on our Web site, so the changes might have been made before you read this text. To access the latest on-line documentation, go to the product library page at: http://www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/library The following update to the WebSphere Application Server Version 7.0 Information Center will be made available in June 2013. New message: BBOO0417E: DAEMON IS NOT A VALID TARGET FOR COMMAND {0} Explanation: This modify command is not valid when issued against a daemon process. Therefore, the command did not successfully complete. Useraction: Retry the command with a non-daemon target. APAR PM84850 is currently targeted for inclusion in WebSphere Application Server Fix Packs 7.0.0.33, 8.0.0.9, and 8.5.5.2 of WebSphere Application Server.
