    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Installation of interim fixes fails *
    *                      when attempting to update a 32-bit      *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Installation Manager (IM) metadata is specific to both the
    host Operating System (OS)) and JVM architecture for an
    environment. Because of this, the pre-populated eWAS IM
    metadata is also specific to a OS/JVM architecture
    combination, with 32-bit JVMs installed on 32-bit OSes. This
    results in IM failing to correctly install interim fixes when
    the 32-bit eWAS image is installed on a 64-bit OS, as IM
    detects faulty metadata and refuses to proceed.

Problem conclusion

  • New hybrid images (32-bit JVM on 64-bit OS) were created for
    usage by eWAS embedders. This APAR is not directly applicable
    to end users of WAS.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 8.0.0.9. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
