APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
If EntityManager.createNativeQuery() is used with a parameter like "SELECT * FROM USERS WHERE NAME LIKE 'x\y%'", then the JDBC query will be created using expression "SELECT * FROM USERS WHERE NAME LIKE 'xy%'", i.e. all slashes will be thrown away from the query text.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V8.0.0, V8.5.0, and V8.5.5 who make * * use of of JPQL queries which contain * * slashes and parameters. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Slashes (escpate charater) contained * * in JPQL queries will be removed from * * generated SQL. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Escape character in JPQL with parameter substitution generates incorrect SQL. For example, take the following JPQL strings: "SELECT 'TRUE' AS VAL FROM DUAL WHERE '\\' = ?" or "SELECT * FROM USERS WHERE NAME LIKE 'x\y%'" The '\\' will be transformed to '', and the 'x\y%' will be transformed to 'xy%'. Both wil cause an SQLException.
Problem conclusion
With this fix, code has been added to OpenJPA to properly handle slashes and parameters. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Levels (Fix Packs) 8.0.0.7 and 8.5.5.2 of WebSphere Application Server versions 8.0.0 and 8.5.5.
