Error description
If the job does not have enough above the bar memory due to a system limit, the install job can hang. In one case, the last message in the appdata log xml file was <entry num='115' time='1363911925744' elapsed='42:25.62' level='WARNING' thread='Thread-8009'> <logger>global</logger> <class>com.ibm.ws.exec.command.ProcessTimeoutThread</class> <method>run</method> <message>Waited for 1800000 ms. The running command [/MAINT/zWebSphere/V8R0/bin/postinstall.sh] is time out and terminated. </message> </entry>
Local fix
Code MEMLIMIT=NOLIMIT in the JCL. An example of this is //INSTALL EXEC PGM=IKJEFT01,REGION=0M,MEMLIMIT=NOLIMIT

Problem conclusion
APAR PM88188 will add MEMLIMIT=NOLIMIT to WebSphere Application Server sample jobs that invoke IBM Installation Manager to perform product installs. APAR PM88188 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Packs 8.0.0.8 and 8.5.5.1 of WebSphere Application Server.
