Error description
JMS operations typically need to be committed last in the case where a message is sent and then processed and that processing expects the transaction that sent the message to already be committed eg: - MDB onMessage - Update row1 in DB - Send msg1 - commit In the above example msg1 gets processed expecting to see row1 but doesn't because the commit processing for the DB has not completed. This is not working because the MQ JMS XAResourceInfo is the J2CXAResourceInfo which returns false for commitInLastPhase always.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: JMS operations need to be committed * * last when a message is sent expecting * * the transation to already be committed * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** It appears that WMQ is not being committed last in phase. This looks to be simply because it was implemented for the JMS wrappers and not in the J2CXAResourceInfo.
Problem conclusion
The J2C component has been updated to handle the JMS commit order through a JVM custom property. Set the jmsCommitInLastPhase JVM custom property to 'true'. This causes the WebSphere transaction manager to commit database updates before JMS work is done, and thus prevents the problem from happening. To set the JVM custom property: In the administrative console, go to Servers -> Application Servers -> server name -> Process Definition -> Java Virtual machine. Select Custom Properties and click New. Enter jmsCommitInLastPhaseas the name and true as the value. Save the changes and restart the server. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.31, 8.0.0.8, and 8.5.5.2 Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
