    ****************************************************************
A change in class loading, which was introduced by the upgrade
of the Java Development Kit (JDK), caused a regression of
startup for annotations enabled applications of approximately
    3%.
The regression is caused by changes to class loading order.
The JDK upgrade was from a base level of
pap6460_26sr3-20120810_01(SR3) to an updated level of
    pap6460_26sr5ifix-20130301_01(SR5+IV36426).
The problem is most severe on AIX, but is present in all
    operating systems.

Problem conclusion

  • No actual defect is present. The regression was caused by
unavoidable changes to classloading which were introduced by a
    JDK update.

The problem was resolved by an update to the algorithm
used for loading classes during annotations processing. The
update provides a speedup of approximitely 5%. The classloading
algorithm was tuned to search most recently successful
classpath elements first when locating new classes. The
update provides a small reduction of memory usage.
