• Managed beans (javax.annotation.ManagedBean) will fail to start
  on z/OS with the following exception:

  com.ibm.ws.metadata.ejb.WASEJBMDOrchestrator.processZOSMetadata(
  WASEJBMDOrchestrator.java:2333)
  

Local fix

Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED:  All users of IBM WebSphere Application      *

  *                  applications that use managed beans.        *

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: NullPointerException occurs when        *
  *                      attempting to start an application      *
  *                      containing a managed bean on z/OS.      *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  ****************************************************************
  When starting an application that contains managed beans, the
  WebSphere Application Server is attempting to perform z/OS
  specific processing for Enterprise Java Beans (EJB), which
  does not apply to managed beans, resulting in a
  NullPointerException.
  

Problem conclusion

• The WebSphere Application Server will be updated to insure EJB
  specific processing is not performed for managed beans.
  
  APAR PM90942 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Pack
  8.5.5.1 of WebSphere Application Server V8.5.
