Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server version * * 7.0, 8.0 and 8.5.5 users of JavaServer * * Faces (JSF) SunRI. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A classloader leak can occur when an * * exception is thrown during the * * initialization of a JSF SunRI * * application. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** If an exception occurs during the initialization of an application configured to use the SunRI JSF implementation, a classloader leak can occur because a ThreadPoolExcecutor object fails to have its shutdown method called. An example of an exception which could lead to a classloader leak is: -------------- webapp E com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.webapp.WebApp notifyServletContextCreated SRVE0283E: Exception caught while initializing context: {0} java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError at java.lang.J9VMInternals.initialize(J9VMInternals.java:222) at com.sun.faces.config.ConfigManager.getConfigDocuments(ConfigMana ger.java:276) at com.sun.faces.config.ConfigManager.initialize(ConfigManager.java :202) .... Caused by: java.lang.ClassCastException: org.apache.xerces.jaxp.validation.XMLSchemaFactory incompatible with javax.xml.validation.SchemaFactory at javax.xml.validation.SchemaFactory.newInstance(Unknown Source) at com.sun.faces.config.DbfFactory.initSchema(DbfFactory.java:149) -------------- When the application is stopped the classloader remains because the ThreadPoolExecutor object was not released.
Problem conclusion
The SunRI JSF code was modified to ensure the shutdown method is called during the application initialization. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.31, 8.0.0.8, and 8.5.5.2.
