Error description
WebSphere's canonical lookup (calling Java InetAddress#getCanonicalHostName) returns ip address instead of hostname. This causes the Web request to not be intercepted for Spnego Single SignOn. Following trace entry indicates canonical look up returns ip address instead of hostname. Example Trace snippet: [6/12/13 12:29:06:957 EDT] 00000030 AllServerConf 2 com.ibm.ws.security.spnego.AllServerConfigs getCanonicalHostname CanonicalSupport has converted hostname.domain.com to x.x.x.x.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server who configure SPNEGO (Simple and * * Protected GSSAPI Negotiation Mechanism) * * Single sign-on * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Http request is not intercepted for * * SPNEGO authentication * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended to check out network * * or Java configuration first to see if * * reconfiguration can make the Java * * API * * (java.net.InetAddress#getCanonicalHostNam * * e( * * ) * * ) to return actual hostname. Only when * * reconfiguration does not work, use this * * custom property. * **************************************************************** WebSphere Application Server expects the following Java API: java.net.InetAddress #getCanonicalHostName() to return actual hostname. In case this API returns string representation of IP address, the application server is not able to recognize that the incoming request needs to be evaluated for SPNEGO authentication.
Problem conclusion
The code is updated to provide a way to skip canonical lookup for specified hostname. It is recommended to update network configuration to resolve this issue. Please contact IBM support for further information. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.31, 8.0.0.8 and 8.5.5.1/ Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss? rs=180&uid=swg27004980
