PM91573: CDI APP FAILS TO START WITH "AMBIGUOUSRESOLUTIONEXCEPTION" DUE TO HOW PARAMETERIZED TYPES ARE DETECTED FOR INJECTION

Error description

Parameterized types of parent classes and parent interfaces
of beans available for injection are not detected properly
causing application start failure.

The problem is how the generic types are detected for super
classes in the type hierarchy.

The application fails to start to start with a
"javax.enterprise.inject.AmbiguousResolutionException"

This should work since 2 producers do not produce the same type
("ArrayList<String>" vs "List<Integer>" and the injection point
is explicit).

The CDI container incorrectly resolves parameterized types of
parent classes and parent interfaces of beans available for
injection.

Problem conclusion

When the "com.ibm.ws.webbeans.discoverParentParameterizedTypes"
property is set to true (default=false) in the
META-INF/openwebbeans/openwebbeans.properties file of a bean
archive, the CDI container will correctly resolve the
parameterized types of parent classes and parent interfaces of
beans available for injection.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 8.0.0.8 and 8.5.5.2.  Please refer to the
