Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V8.5 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: OutOfMemoryError occurs when * * Intelligent * * Management connects to a VMWare * * vCenter * * server with a large number of virtual * * machines * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When Intelligent Management is configured to communicate with a VMWare vCenter server, it creates information in memory for every physical and virtual machine that is managed by the server regardless of whether it hosts a WebSphere Application Server node. If the vCenter has a large number of machines with no WebSphere nodes, this consumes memory unnecessarily and may lead to an OutOfMemoryError.
Problem conclusion
The code is changed to import data only for virtual machines that have WebSphere nodes in linked cells. The change must be activated by setting a new custom property. To enable this custom property, go through the administrative console under System Administration > Cell > Custom Properties and define a new custom property with the name vmware.service.unique_id.importMachinesWithWASNodesOnly where unique_id is the unique identifier that represents the vCenter. Set the value of the property to true. Save the workspace and sync all nodes. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.5.5.1.
