Error description

  • If the Transaction Log directory is specified with a trailing
    blank on Windows operating systems, the transaction logs fail
    allocation on server start.
    The server SystemOut.log will show following sequence:

Local fix

  • Remove the trailing blank from the Transaction Log Directory
    specification.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    * Server who set the transaction log *
    *                  directory                                   *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Specifying a transaction log *
    * directory with a space at the end *
    *                      causes an error                         *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Spaces at the end of filenames are trimmed by the Windows
    operating system, but the WebSphere Application Server did not
    remove space from the end of a specified transaction directory
    log name.
    This does not affect other operating systems, as space
    characters are preserved at the end of directory names

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere Application Server has been updated to remove space
    characters from the end of the transaction directory log name
    when run on Windows.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 8.0.0.9 and 8.5.5.2. Please refer to the Recommended
