    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When deploying an application from a *
    * deployment manager running WebSphere *
    *                      Application Server V8.0 (or higher)     *
    *                      to a node running WebSphere             *
    *                      Application Server V7.0, the            *
    * deployment fails. This same *
    * application deploys successfully if *
    * the deployment manager is running *
    *                      WebSphere Application Server V7.0.      *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The deployment fails because the application contains Java EE
    6 annotations. WebSphere Application Server V7.0 is a Java EE
    5 implementation and does not recognize Java EE 6 annotations.
    It ignores the annotations and has no problem installing the
    application.
    WebSphere Application Server V8.0 (and higher) processes the
    Java EE 6 annotations which causes the version of the
    application to be upgraded. Once the application is upgraded,
    the deployment manager will not deploy the application to a
    node running WebSphere Application Server V7.0.

Problem conclusion

  • This apar allows the usage of a custom property,
    "org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.commonarchivecore.ignore.jee6.annotation
    =true". Setting the property to true will prevent the
    application from processing Java EE 6
    annotations. The default value is false.

    An option at the application level is also provided.
    Adding the following to the application META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
    file will also prevent the application upgrade:

    Ignore-JEE6-Annotation: true

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 8.0.0.9 and 8.5.5.2. Please refer to the
