Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The Java Virtual Machine may not be * * able to reclaim Web application * * objects immdidiately after the * * application is stopped. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Threads that manage Web application sessions may retain strong references to Web application module classloaders after the application has been stopped, which will cause objects of stopped Web applications to be unreclaimable from the heap during subsequent garbage collections until the strong references are cleared. APAR 97908 clears these strong references within the threads immediately upon completing their work.
Problem conclusion
Apply APAR PM97908 to minimize the chance of leaking application memory when administrating Web applications. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.5.5.2 and 8.0.0.8.
