1. ABOUT THIS RELEASE
=====================================================================

This release provides product documentation in the form of an IBM Eclipse Help System and in the form of Portable Document Format (PDF) files.

IBM Eclipse Help System V3.1.1
An IBM Eclipse Help System, referred to as "Information Center", is installed with WebSphere Transformation Extender base products.

You can access the WebSphere Transformation Extender Information Center in the following ways: The Knowledge Center opens in your default browser.

PDF files
You can optionally install the WebSphere Transformation Extender documentation PDF files. The PDF documents that are installed with the Online Library are determined by the products that you have installed. Similarly, the SDK Library documents are installed only when the SDK product has been installed.

For best results, install all product components before installing the Online Library to view all of the documentation to which you are entitled.

After installing the Online Library, you can access it from the IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender 8.2 program menu or by navigating to the following path:
    install_dir/docs/en/library.pdf

Release version number on unchanged documentation files
Documentation files that have not been changed in this release do not display the current release version number. This includes PDF files, help files in the WebSphere Transformation Extender Information Center, and product readme files.

    - Mozilla-based browsers 1.7 and higher
    - Firefox 1.0 and higher
    - Safari (UI base mode only)
    - Konqueror (UI base mode only)

Acrobat Reader is required to view the online libraries. You can download the latest version of Acrobat Reader from the Adobe Web site (www.adobe.com).

3. KNOWN LIMITATIONS, PROBLEMS, AND WORKAROUNDS
=====================================================================

Starting and dismissing the Information Center

    "Page cannot be displayed" message
To invoke the Information Center from the user interface of an application, select Help > Contents or press F1. When you close the application interface before closing the Information Center browser, the following message is displayed in the browser:
      "The page cannot be displayed"

To avoid this message, you must first close the Information Center browser before closing the application. To use the Information Center when an application is not open, you must invoke it from the programs menu. For example, on Windows XP select:
Start > All Programs > IBM WebSphere Transformation
Extender 8.2 > Start the InfoCenter

    "Dismissing" the Information Center
When you open the Information Center from the programs menu, you must also "Dismiss" the Information Center to terminate the Java process that is running.

For example, you can start and stop the Information Center from your programs menu:
    • IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender 8.2 >
      Start the InfoCenter
    • IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender 8.2 >
      Dismiss the InfoCenter

Note that the Dismiss the InfoCenter function does not automatically close the browser in which the Information Center is displayed. If you want to close the browser, you must do it manually.

Information Center differences
When you start the Information Center from the Design Studio GUI, the default IBM Eclipse help system page opens and the table of contents lists the WebSphere Transformation Extender help plug-ins in an order that appears to be random.

When you start the stand-alone Information Center from the programs menu, the customized WebSphere Transformation Extender documentation help system page opens and the table of contents lists the WebSphere Transformation Extender help plug-ins in a customized order.

Documentation under development
There are some documentation deliverables, especially for the new Eclipse-based Design Studio GUI, that are still under development. This includes the new Map Designer documentation.

4. NEW OR CHANGED BEHAVIOR
=====================================================================

About translated documentation
For this release, no documentation will be translated.

When you open either the IBM Eclipse Help System (Information Center) or Online Library, the documents are displayed in the English (United States) language.

Inquiries about translating documents to specific languages should be directed to an IBM representative of the respective country.

Viewing the stand-alone Information Center in another language
The stand-alone WebSphere Transformation Extender Information Center is the version of the Information Center that you open from the programs menu by selecting Start > All Programs > IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender 8.2 > Start InfoCenter.

You can specify a different language in which to display the stand-alone Information Center, other than the language in which it is currently displayed based on the country or regional/language settings of your computer. To do this, specify the language in the help_start.bat file, which is the file that is used to open the
stand-alone Information Center. But, as stated earlier, any documents that were not translated are displayed in the original English (United States) version.

This only affects the stand-alone Information Center. The information center that opens inside all applications that have a graphical user interface (GUI) still displays in the language based on the country or regional/language settings of your computer.

You can continue to view the applications that have a GUI in the same language in which your computer is set, while viewing the stand-alone Information Center in a different language. You might prefer to view the English version of the stand-alone Information Center to access a more current version of the documentation.

To specify a different language:
  1. Navigate to install_dir\IBM\WebSphere Transformation Extender 8.2\docs\help_start.bat.
  2. Open the help_start.bat file in an editor.
  3. Insert national language parameter, -NL lang_code, in the last line of the script.
    Example: Specify English language
    -NL en
You must specify a valid language code:
de en es fr it ja ko pt_BR zh_CN zh_TW
  4. Save the file.
  5. Run the batch file by double-clicking it, or by selecting Start > All Programs > IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender 8.2 > Start InfoCenter from the programs menu.

The Information Center opens and its contents are displayed in the specified language.

No online help available
There is no online help, including F1 and question mark help, in the WebSphere Transformation Extender Design Studio (Type Designer, Map Designer), Integration Flow Designer, Database Interface Designer, and all other applications that have a graphical user interface (GUI), with some exceptions.

Online help is currently being developed for the new Eclipse-based Design Studio, so you will find some online help on limited type tree designer functionality. If you have upgraded from versions of WebSphere Transformation Extender products prior to 8.1, it would appear that the online help has been removed.

Now, when you select Help > Contents from within an application, the Information Center opens in your default browser.
