Note: IBM Storage Protect backup-archive client support for third-party operating systems, applications, services, and hardware depend on the respective vendor. If a third-party product or version moves into extended support, self-service support, or end-of-life, IBM Storage Protect backup-archive client supports the product or version at the same level as the vendor. Release 8.1

Note: The product now known as IBM Storage Protect was named IBM Spectrum Protect in levels earlier than 8.1.19. To learn more about the brand change, see IBM Spectrum Protect brand change to IBM Storage Protect.

Hardware
System Any 64-bit Intel-based Macintosh
Apple silicon-based Macintosh, by using conversion mechanism Rosetta 2 (Beginning with 8.1.15)
Disk Space 500 MB disk space required to install the client.
Memory
 		 No extra Random-Access Memory (RAM) is required for product installation. RAM requirements for running the product vary widely and depend on your environment, configuration, and tasks that you run. More RAM might be required to run the product.
Software
Communication Protocol
Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Operating system Note: Apple changes their Macintosh security model and requires that any software, which is running on their operating systems, is signed and notarized by Apple. Due of these changes, the IBM storage Protect backup-archive client supports the following operating systems.

The following operating systems are supported by IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client 8.1.10 and later:
  • macOS 10.14 (Mojave) (Beginning with 8.1.6)
    Note: Beginning with GSKit 8.0.55.17, GSKit provide 64 bit signed and notarized packages to support macOS 10.14.5 and later. For that reason IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client 8.1.11 and later support started with macOS 10.14.5.
  • macOS 10.15 (Catalina) (Beginning with 8.1.9.1)
  • macOS 11 (Big Sur) and later updates (Beginning with 8.1.12)
  • macOS 12 (Monterey) and later updates (Beginning with 8.1.13)
  • macOS 13 (Ventura) and later updates (Beginning with 8.1.19)
  • macOS 14 (Sonoma) and later updates (Beginning with 8.1.21)

If you are using the following operating systems, use IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client 8.1.9:
  • OS X 10.11 (Beginning with 8.1.0)
  • macOS 10.12 (Beginning with 8.1.0)
  • macOS 10.13 (Beginning with 8.1.2)
File system For supported file systems, see: File system and ACL support
More software
The web backup-archive client use Java™:
  • Before backup-archive client 8.1.10: JRE 7 or JRE 8
  • Beginning with backup-archive client 8.1.10: OpenJDK JRE 11.7 + 10.2
Note: Beginning with IBM Spectrum Protect 8.1.2, you can no longer use the web client to connect to the IBM Spectrum Protect 8.1.2 or later server. For more information, see Using the web client in the new security environment
