Db2 Load may hang after installing patch 127111 on Solaris 10

Troubleshooting

Problem

After installing patch 127111 on Solaris 10, Db2® Load commands will hang when the tablespace of the existing table is defined with more than one container.

Symptom

Load commands hang indefinitely.

Cause

Db2 Load commands do not complete when loading a table that exists in a
tablespace with more than one container. By default, Db2 database will create
one db2lbm process for each container in the tablespace. When there is
more than one db2lbm process, some of the db2lbm processes will
remain in a msgrcv() system call. Sun support has identified bugid
6642234 as being the root cause of the msgrcv() system call not
completing.

Environment

Db2 UDB Versions 8, 9.1 or 9.5 on Solaris 10 with patch 127111.

Diagnosing The Problem

Loads that usually run in seconds take forever and never return.

Resolving The Problem

The number of db2lbm processes can be controlled by the DISK_PARALLELISM option of the Load command. Using DISK_PARALLELISM 1 in the Load command allows the load to complete successfully.
