    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Cobol, PLI and Debug tool use *

    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
Cobol, PLI and Debug Tool use Extrapartition TD
queues to access sysdebug information during abend and
debug processing. This requires use of the SPI to open
and close the queues. It also requires they have
    authorization to access TD queues.

If a customer disallows use of SPI in their CICS region
then they lose the ability to debug their applications.

As there is no resource level security for TD queues,
protection is solely via command level security. Granting
access for users to access TD queues required for PLI,
Cobol and Debug Tool is unacceptable as it gives access
to other TD queues such as CSMT.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

  • FIX AVAILABLE BY PTF ONLY

Comments

  • PLI, Cobol and Debug Tool will use an OPENAPI TRUE to
access the SYSDEBUG files using native QSAM api calls
thereby bypassing the need to use CICS TD queues.
The CICS Transaction Server 3.2 Data Areas manual
(GC34686300) will be updated as follows. The description
of the CSA will be amended, and the reserved 4 byte slot
at offset x'180' will be redefined to read:
'(180) CSALETRU ADDRESS 4 Address of DFHLETRU'
