IBM Support

References to a Rational Functional Tester Project

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote describes how to add a references to Microsoft® SQL Server in an IBM® Rational® Functional Tester (RFT) project, that uses in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003.

Symptom

When you set up a connection to a Microsoft SQL Server directly inside the script, RFT cannot find the system.data.sqlclient namespace. You get error that RFT cannot find the namespace. For example:

Namespace or type 'Data' for the Imports 'System.Data' cannot be found.

Resolving The Problem

In RFT, copy the assembly to the customization directory. The default location of this directory is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IBM\RFT\customization

On Windows Vista™ the default location of RFT customization folder is:

    C:\Users\All Users\IBM\RFT\customization

This will automatically add the assembly as a reference to the project.

Note: You need to add the assembly to the customization directory on all computers.

For this particular case you need to copy the system.data.dll assembly. You can find it in the framework installation directory. For example,

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322
