Error description

  • The cleartool protectvob command does not work for VOBs
    stored on a NAS device.
The protectvob command incorrectly determines that the pools
are remote when in fact the entire VOB storage directory is
    on the NAS.
Today, there is no correctly documented way to change
ownership for VOBs where the VOB storage is on a NAS device
and the CPU for the VOB server is some other processor/
computer. The white paper on the IBM web site is incorrect,
in that it gives directions for updating the ownership of
VOB storage pools. It does not explain, for example, that
set user ID and set group ID bits need to be set for the
uid and gid files under the .security directory.
