APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Accessing an automounted directory with -hosts map where
    the
NFS server has more than 50 exports can cause the command
    (ls, cd etc)
to hang. This happens only with -hosts map and not with
    direct or indirect
    maps.

Local fix

  • Limit the number of exported directories on the NFS
    server to be less
than 50 (This number also depends on the length of the
    pathnames, so longer
pathnames means even fewer directories that can be
    exported)

Problem summary

  • Accessing an automounted directory with -hosts map where the
NFS server has too many exports(approximately around 50
exports) can cause the command (ls, cd etc) to hang. This
happens only with -hosts map and not with direct or indirect
    maps.

Problem conclusion

  • Modified autofs code to communicate the server export details
from automount daemon to kernel, in smaller chunks and thus
    avoiding the hang.
