IZ78718: HOST COMMAND FAILS TO MATCH HOST WHEN NETCD IS RUNNING APPLIES TO AIX 6100-05

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The host command fails to match hostname provided when
    netcd
    is running if the case is different from the /etc/hosts
    file.
        /etc/hosts
            1.1.1.1       test
            2.2.2.2       test61
    
    # host TEST
    test is 1.1.1.1
    # startsrc -s netcd
    0513-059 The netcd Subsystem has been started. Subsystem
    PID is 405634.
    # host TEST
    host: 0827-801 Host name TEST does not exist.
    

Local fix

  • Either disable netcd or make sure both upper AND lower
    case
    versions of the hostname are stated in the /etc/hosts, or
    related db file.
    

Problem summary

  • host cmd becomes case sensitive when netcd is running.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Changed hash algorithm and compare logic.
