Error description

  • In a rare case, if the system has lot of memory, many
    CPUs and is
having lot of paging activity, the system may hang with
    one of the
    CPU's stack as

    (22)> f
    pvthread+001800 STACK:
    [0012B014]addrepage+000258 (F100070009000000 [??])

    [0024EAFC]v_prememp_lru+000020 (??)
    [002EEBF4].backt+000088 ()

Local fix

  • There is no workaround of the issue. System would need to
    be rebooted.

Problem summary

  • A system hang with one cpu stuck in addrepage().

Problem conclusion

  • The addrepage code is modified such that a process will detect
that it lost the race for an entry, and it will loop until
    it finds an unused entry.

Temporary fix
