APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A scalable volume group can be created or changed
    enabling
mirror pools policy by using the -M flag.
The VG just created will have the policy set accordingly
to the flag used but no mirror pools defined yet.
In such situation, where we do not have mirrorpool names
set, if the policy is superstrict mklv command will
allow the creation of the LV without any error while it
    is
failing, as expected, if the policy is strict.

Local fix

  • Define the mirrorpools before creating the logical volume
and use them while creating the LV with mklv.

Problem summary

  • mklv will allow you to create an LV without mirror pools
assigned to each copy even when superstrict mirror pools are
    enabled for the VG.

Problem conclusion

  • Change mklv to fail with error when trying to create an LV
in a superstrict mirror pool VG without assigning each copy
    to a MP.
