IZ80436: PAM_CHAUTHTOK (64-BIT) FAILS TRYING TO CHANGE A USER PASSWORD APPLIES TO AIX 6100-05

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A Pluggable Authentication Module compiled to be a
64-bit binary will fail when calling pam_chauthtok()
to change a user password.  When PAM debug is
enabled, this message will be in the syslog -

Authentication token manipulation error

This failure can also be seen by calling dbm_fetch()
(64-bit version) directly; it always returns NULL
even if the key is in the database.

Local fix

  • Use 32-bit versions of PAM modules.

Problem summary

  • 64-bit version of dbm_fetch() returns null

Problem conclusion

  • Code changes made to turnoff optimization for 64bit version of
dbm_fetch()
