IC54107: TSM ANR8833E DURING CHECKIN LIBVOL FOR SOME VOLUMES

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • User starts a checkin libv process with search=bulk, but an
    error occurs during the process. Volumes which were scanned
    and awaiting to be moved to storage slots, but were not due
    to the error, can return ANR8833E on subsequent checkin
    attempts.

    Possible errors during checkin libv from the bulk slots are
    ANR8310E, ANR8314E, and ANR8382W.
    TSM Versions affected:
    All which can use SCSI libraries.
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    The diagnostic command SHOW MMSV may show volumes in the
    activeVolList when there are no checkin or checkout libvol
    processes running:

    Each volume in the vol= column will return ANR8833E during all
    subsequent checkin libv processes. These volumes may actually
    be left in the bulk slot, or they may have been moved to a
    storage slot but may not be in TSM inventory according to
    QUERY LIBV.

Local fix

  • Restart the TSM server to prevent further ANR8833E messages.
    -
    Ensure that the library is not already full, or will become
    full when volumes in the bulk slot are checked in.
    -
    Physically locate each volume which returned ANR8833E before
    restarting TSM, but does not exist in QUERY LIBV. Volumes
    still in the bulk slot can be checked in using checkin libv
    with search=bulk. Volumes which were moved to internal slots
    can be checked in with checkin libv with search=yes.

    Apply fixing maintenance.
