Error description

  • When an SQL statement containing an inner join is prepared from
an ODBC client using a keyset driven cursor against a DB2 v8
z/OS host running with New Function Mode enabled, the cursor is
prepared and sent as a SENSITIVE DYNAMIC cursor. This in turn
results in the host throwing an error -243. The application may
then report either the -243 error, or an ODBC error as follows:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e21'
ODBC driver does not support the requested properties.

On the host side, the following PREPARE ATTRIBUTES are being
    sent in for the cursor:
SCROLL SENSITIVE DYNAMIC WITH HOLD WITH ROW SET
    POSITIONING

However, the host requires READ ONLY processing for the cursor
because of the INNER JOIN. Similar restrictions exist for any
SQL statement that will require a temp table for processing.

Local fix

  • The CLI keyword CursorTypes=3 can be specified to force the
client to disallow dynamic cursors, returning to the behavior in
use prior to enabling v8 NFM on the z/OS host.
