APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When running a CLI/ODBC based application with the CLI statement
attribute SQL_ATTR_ASYNC_ENABLE turned on, the performance may
be much slower than expected. This APAR will improve the
performance of Asynchronous statements to an acceptable manner.

Local fix

  • Turn SQL_ATTR_ASYNC_ENABLE off in the application or use the db2
    cli.ini keyword/value pair: ASYNCENABLE=0

Problem summary

  • Users Affected: Users using a CLI application.
Problem Description: A CLI application that has the statement
attribute SQL_ATTR_ASYNC_ENABLE set may perform much slower than
    expected.

Problem conclusion

  • First fixed in DB2 UDB Version 8, FixPak 17

Temporary fix

  • Set ASYNCENABLE=0 in the db2cli.ini file. This
will disable asynchronous executions in the CLI application.
