APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Target data source - Sybase table with a not null column type.
  CT-Library treats an empty string as a NULL and hence an
  SQL0407N error is returned when an insert with empty string is
  attempted on a target sybase table with not null column.
  

Local fix

• Change target column to null is a temporary workaround.
  

Problem summary

• USERS AFFECTED: Users with a federated system that connects to a
  Sybase data source.
  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  If this APAR is not applied, you can encounter SQL0407N errors
  when attempting to insert an empty string into a table that has
  NOT NULL columns.
  PROBLEM SUMMARY: This APAR addresses the problem that DB2 UDB is
  converting an empty string into a space character.  This APAR
  introduces a new server option called CONV_EMPTY_STRING, which
  can be used ONLY in Federated Replication environments.
  The usage is as follows:
  alter server serv_name options (add  CONV_EMPTY_STRING 'Y')
  

Problem conclusion

• Problem was first fixed in Version 8.1 FixPak 11 (s060120).
