Error description
The ABENDEC6 towards the end of shutdown is intermittent and only occurs when rotatelogs is configured for the Apache IHS error log.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM HTTP Server on z/OS that use * * piped loggers such as rotatelogs * * (ErrorLog or CustomLog directive starts * * with a "|" character) * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An ABEND EC6 is logged during IHS * * shutdown when IHS has been configured * * for piped loggers. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply this fix if an EC6 ABEND is observed * * during shutdown and the configuration * * includes "piped logs" (ErrorLog or * * CustomLog directive values starts with * * a "|" character) * **************************************************************** During shutdown, IHS tries to kill any children that were forked from the parent process, including the copies of /bin/sh that were used to launch piped log processes. On z/OS, this can cause the /bin/sh process to abend with an EC6.
Problem conclusion
IHS was updated to not explicitly kill the forked shell, as the logger and shell will exit automatically when the piped loggers stdin is closed during shutdown. This fix is targeted for IBM HTTP Server fix packs: - 6.1.0.47 - 7.0.0.23 - 8.0.0.3
